Fantasy Football Sleepers

The best EDGE you can have on draft day is the right fantasy football sleepers list!
The late round "throw away" picks that nobody else takes seriously enough.  We'll tell you who to grab with your last few picks that could be the key to your season!  And perhaps most importantly we'll have a list a of warnings - the players that may see a big and/or surprising decline in production this season.

A sample of what we've got for members - 2008 Fantasy Football Sleepers
Matt Forte, RB, Chicago - He has every shot to be the #1 RB for the Bears and although he's got to prove it in pre-season this rookie is poised to be the every down back in Chicago. The problem here is that the Bears offense will offer little threat through the air allowing teams to key on the ground game.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Pittsburgh - The Steelers will want a bigger back to carry the ball around the goal line. Look for Mendenhall to get plenty of goal line opportunities and although the yards may not pile up as Willie Parker still gets plenty of work but in TD heavy league Mendenhall is a solid sleeper choice - so much so he's barely a sleeper anymore.

Lendale White, RB, Tennessee - Seems too many people have given up on this guy then last year he goes for over 1100 yards and 7 TDs and that was with torn cartilage in his new. Not healthy look for even better numbers from this workhorse back.

And we've also got some warnings to help you sink your team early.
Browns Offense - Cleveland put up some amazing numbers last season behind Derek Anderson's amazing year. Although a repeat performance is not entirely out of the question it is a bit unlikely. We'd rather see these guys prove it by backing it up this season with some at least good numbers. Don't pull the trigger too early on anyone from the Browns offense.

Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland - Hype is very high on McFadden and perhaps rightly so - he's an amazing talent. After Adrian Peterson's phenomal rookie season last year hype is even higher. But the Vikings had a much better offensive line than the Raiders do for McFadden. We like McFadden and pre-draft had him pegged as a sleeper but in our mock drafts he continues to go higher than warranted. If McFadden can be your 3rd back grab him but he's going too early in most drafts early in the pre-season.

Players with big pre-season games!
Becareful when you see big games from unknown, or even kind of known, players in the pre-season. Certainly guys can make teams in the pre-season but big 4th quarters don't mean much in the pre-season.

Guys on "your" team!
Odds are you're not only a fantasy football player you're a fan of an NFL team. Don't get trapped by local hype and local optimism on sports talk radio, TV news or your local paper. Having guys on your favorite team on your fantasy teams is more fun, we agree but don't overdraft your guys on the basis. Sitck to your cheat sheet when drafting - even "your" guys!

Here's some of what we had in 2007...

Randy Moss, WR, New England Patriots - Yes, the Randy Moss, the same guy who has literally disappeared off Fantasy owners starting lineups the last few years.  With another chance in NE, he will once again produce respectable stats.  We actually undersold Moss he had an amazing season.

Marshawn Lynch, RB, Buffalo Bills - The sleeper Rookie RB.  In smaller leagues, a great 3rd RB or in larger leagues, a solid 2nd.  Already projected as the guy in Buffalo, he has all the talent to rush for big yards in his first NFL campaingn.  Lynch produced very good numbers.

Brandon Jacobs, RB, NY Giants - He may not be too far from being the
featured back but is likely to get plenty of chances around the goal
line.  He's a good pick when top guys are getting thin on your draft
sheet.

Jacoby Jones, WR, Houston Texans - Jones is performing much better than previously announced starter Kevin Walter and although the #2 WR spot for Houston is hardly a big fantasy producing spot, Jones could be overlooked by many on draft day.

Brandon Marshall, WR, Denver Broncos and Ruvell Martin, WR, Green Bay
Packers
- Unless you have a deep bench we're not quite ready to
recommend either of these guys get drafted by you but keep an eye on
them in pre-season and early in the season being ready to grab them off
the waiver wire.  The potential for solid numbers is there its just a
matter of when they get their chance.

Ranking the Top 3 Rookie RB's:
Marshawn Lynch - THE guy in Buffalo

Adrian Peterson - The most talented, but will share
time with C. Taylor at least early.

Brandon Jackson - A little more to prove in Green Bay
then the other 2, but may get an early chance to show he's
ready.

A few other guys that really can't be called sleepers as they'll be very high picks and certainly not surprises but these guys could be even better than expected.
Frank Gore - Huge jump last year and as San Fran gets better so will Gore's numbers - especially TDs (yards will be tough to top)
Joseph Addai - Again, no shocker here but behind that line with this offense Addai is justifiable as the #2 overall pick.
Laurence Maroney - No more Corey Dillion in NE this guy could see the ball a lot and see it on a great team. Only thing keeping him out of a Top 5 overall spot is that the Pats simply have so many weapons around the endzone.

WARNING LIST - These are guys we have some concerns about in 2007, they may be hard to pass on but you may be thanking us by mid-season.
Larry Johnson - We cover this on our home page, we have several concerns about LJ in 2007.
Deuce McAllister - Like many Saints, some decline is likely and with Reggie Bush becoming more a part of this offense we worry about having an older back with an injury history on our team.
Warrick Dunn - News of Dunn missing most if not all of camp re-enforces our warning here - he's 32 and carries a big load in his career, changes to the Falcons offense and likely no Mike Vick for the offense - avoid Dunn.
Jeff Garcia - He will be overrated after a nice little run last season, don't get sucked in he's a career average QB at best - don't think the Buccs is where he turns it around.

A quick look at 2006 Sleepers....

Laurence Maroney, RB New England - As a rookie we had Maroney as solid RB option. He averaged over 4 yards per game.

Philip Rivers, QB San Diego - While many thought the QB move was a mistake we knew that Rivers had too many weapons around him to not be successful and he put up a very strong year.

Steve McNair, QB Baltimore Ravens - We were quick to let our readers know the we thought McNair we benefit greatly from his new environment with a solid D and balanced offensive attack. We were right.
