~ 2008 Fantasy Football HOT TOPICS ~
Just a few of the headlines and some of the news in and around the NFL that we've certainly taken note of...and a few of the common questions we've gotten in 2008!
Here's the fantasy news we covered in '07

Bret Favre - I guess we can't be too surprised by at least mention of a Favre comeback....July 2nd ESPN is reporting that Favre has contacted the Packers and told them that he has the itch to play again....stay tuned, this could get real interesting - real fast!

Brandon Marshall - Off field issues continue to be a concern for Marshall and potential action from the NFL is a significant concern. Hopefully this will get resolved sooner rather than later for fantasy football players but that's not usually how the NFL works.

Terry Glenn -Contract squabbles continue to escalate and Glenn now demanding his release.  This is not a huge deal in mid-June, if it's still unresolved in August it becomes a big deal - we'll be on it.

Chad Johnson - Ocho Cinco will have surgery on June 18th to repair his ankle.  All indications are that he'll be absolutely fine and ready to go in training camp but we will be watching his comeback closely and keep our cheat sheets updated accordingly.

Cedric Benson - Looks like Benson's continued disappointment on the field (as we've been warning you about for years) is now off field trouble. He was arrested and charged with drunken driving. Combined with a boating while intoxicated charge just a month ago and a very tough NFL policy for off field trouble will lead to less time by Benson - if not an end to his NFL career. Adrian Peterson (the other one) is #2 for Chicago but the real story here is going to be Matt Forte - he's moving up on our draft day cheat sheet quickly!  UPDATE - No surprise...on June 9th the Bears said good-bye to Benson placing him on waivers.

Matt Forte - As referenced above this opens the door for Forte who offensive coordinator Turner "loves" and is "excited about him" - Now that's the right thing to say after cutting who was supposed to be your star running back but Forte remains someone very high on our watch list for your fantasy cheat sheets.

Marshawn Lynch - Off field legal trouble in the headlines again.  Too early (June 6th) to have a grasp on what this could mean for Lynch but absolutely must be watched and we'll be on it.

Jerramy Stevens - Two game suspension.  The hope here is that it doesn't get worse for any future incidents.  For now our cheat sheets will reflect only 14 potential games of production from the talented TE.

Jeff Garcia - We've been keeping this story out of the headlines here because we thought (hoped) it would just go away - it hasn't....Garcia is again (still) talking about retirement.  It seems like a contract negotiation tactic at this point but we'll keep watching it.

NY Jets QB Battle - Early in the summer this looks like a classic case of "who sucks less" as neither Clemens or Pennington are looking good so far and Ainge still isn't throwing.  But Ainge will heal and we're aren't convinced the other 2 will magically get better.  So we'll be watching Ainge closely in the pre-season.

Patriots Offense - The Pats threw the ball a lot last year - and we mean a lot!  Don't expect that to be the plan this season if they can keep their running backs healthy.  Despite an exceptional season (or a complete failure depending on your perspective) last year with their passing attack the Pats will prefer to run more if they have the healthy backs.

Larry Johnson- We told you last year that LJ would be a bust, but as summer 2008 is upon us is Larry Johnson ready to move back up our fantasy football cheat sheet at RB??  Not quite - the KC offensive line still has issues and we need more evidence of a completely healed foot but early on Johnson looks strong in workouts.

Denver RBs - Seemingly always a potential topic for fantasy players - Denver has signed Michael Pittman and Travis Henry is not yet back on the field for early OTAs and it appears his off season hamstring injury is not healing all that quickly.  Looks like we'll be watching Denver RBs daily during pre-season once again.  Our advice for now - if your draft is early avoid Denver RBs until something looks more clear.

Cadillac Williams - Although the huge breakout year still seems to be on the horizon for Williams as training camp 2008 approaches his biggest challenge is getting healthy enough to play.  The PUP list is a real possibility for Cadillac which means we won't see him until week 10 giving him little to no fantasy value.  We'll watch the recovery of Williams closely during camp but Cadillac does not look like a good option this season trying to comeback from injury.

Darren McFadden - Spotlight on brightly here. Big expectations and a tough road for #1 pick last year. Add Peterson's huge rookie year last season and people looking for McFadden to be the next rookie stud RB. Our thoughts here are that the offensive line isn't good enough for McFadden to breakout nor do they have the support elsewhere on the offense. But of course we'll see what happens in pre-season.

Joe Flacco - Probably the least known name of rookie QBs for this season and not likely a viable fantasy option once all is said and done but the Ravens are very happy with what they've seen early on from the srong armed Flacco. The opporunity is certainly there for Flacco to burst on to the scene.
